During the summer, Nintendo seemed confident it would sell close to 10 million units of its Switch console by March 2018. Now, it has upped that number to 14 million, ahead of the holiday season.
It was in the beginning of the year that Nintendo announced that it would ship two million units globally on launch day. Since that time, supplies of the console have gotten much better, with the firm announcing during the summer that it had sold nearly five million units. It was during this time that it would also project that it would sell around 10 million units by the close of the financial year which ends in March 2018.
While this previous number was good, it appears that things are looking a little better with a new number of 14 million being issued for projected sales. For Nintendo, this is quite an accomplishment considering that its previous console, the Wii U, only sold nearly 14 million units in its entire lifetime. For comparison, the Wii U was on the market for five years, while the Switch will celebrate its first year in March.
With the holiday season fast approaching, it will be interesting to see just how much stock is available at local retailers, particularly during peak times from November through to the end of December.
