According to a report by KGI Securities, the next year’s iPhone X models will offer an increased battery life up to 10 percent.
“All three iPhone models next year are tipped to sport bigger batteries”
Earlier this year, soon after Apple launched the iPhone X ( review), iFixit released a complete teardown of the flagship. iFixit’s teardown revealed that the iPhone X has a new L-shaped two-cell battery pack rated at 2,716mAh. The battery pack was expected to be bigger since the 10th-year anniversary iPhone flaunts an all-screen front. However, it appears that Apple may equip next year’s iPhone X models with a bigger battery.
According to a report by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will be increasing the battery life on the iPhone X 2018. Kuo predicts that Apple is working with LG Chem to deploy a single-cell design for the iPhone X’s L-shaped battery, as opposed to the two-cell battery found on this year’s model. The analyst also suggests that the 5.8-inch iPhone X next year will offer a battery capacity ranging between 2,900mAh and 3,000mAh. The 6.5-inch OLED iPhone model will allegedly reportedly sport a bigger battery ranging between 3,300mAh and 3,400mAh.
Both these devices will sport an L-shaped battery design, with the 6.5-inch OLED model offering a two-cell design. However, the 6.1-inch TFT LCD iPhone model will reportedly pack in a battery of around 2,950mAh in a single rectangular power cell setup, adds the report.
“Two new 2H18 iPhone models could adopt L-shaped battery (6.5” & 5.8” OLED models), with capacity upgraded for all models. In order to extend battery life, we believe it is necessary to expand battery capacity because all three new 2H18 models will be equipped with TrueDepth Camera, which consumes more power”, said Kuo in the report.
The 6.1-inch TFT LCD iPhone is expected to be a cost-effective model. Kuo also predicts that all iPhone models next year will ditch the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and offer the new Face ID sensor instead. If the report is true, the iPhone 8 duo will be the brand’s last handsets to flaunt its iconic design.
