Images and specifications of Sony’s upcoming smartphones – the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact – have surfaced online. Here are the details.
We have been seeing smartphone manufacturers switching to a modern, “bezel-less” design since last year. However, one smartphone manufacturer that stuck with its old, now boring design was Japan-based Sony. But, it will all change when Sony announces its two new flagship smartphones next week – the Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact. While the existence of these smartphones is yet to be confirmed by Sony, the press renders of these smartphones have surfaced online in all their glory.
The press renders and specifications of both the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact have surfaced online, and, they have been leaked by the ever so reliable leakster Evan Blass. Both these smartphones have similar specifications and they also flaunt same look.
As you can see, both these smartphones are boasting a display that has an aspect ratio of 18:9. While the bezels aren’t as small as the ones you would see on Galaxy S8/S9, they are certainly smaller than the Sony phones that have launched since last year.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 features 3D glass on both the front and back with aluminium frames which makes it glossy, whereas, the XZ2 Compact comes with a “non-scratch” polycarbonate finish at the back. That said, the Xperia XZ2 boasts a 5.7-inch display, and, the XZ2 Compact, as evident from its name, sports a smaller 5-inch display.
Both these smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip which is the best available right now on Android devices, and, both of them boot up to Android 8.0 Oreo. But, it remains to be seen whether they come with Project Treble support or not.
Moreover, while both these devices come with flagship chip under the hood, they only sport a single camera at the back. However, it’s worth noting that Sony has moved the fingerprint scanner at the back of the phone. Initially, all the Sony smartphones came with fingerprint scanner embedded on the power button. However, XZ2 and XZ2 Compact aren’t the first Sony phones to have fingerprint scanner at the back. That honor goes to the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra that were announced last month at CES 2018.
That said, as both the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact come with different display sizes, their battery capacities also differ. The former comes packed with a 3180 mAh battery while the latter ships with a 2870 mAh battery.
We will know more about these smartphones next week on February 26 once they are announced by Sony.
