Qualcomm has bolstered its SoC (system-on-a-chip) arsenal, revealing the all-new Snapdragon 700 Series at MWC 2018 alongside a number of others announcemen. Qualcomm Snapdragon 700 Series Revealed: Is this the Moto G6’s future SoC?.
The 700 Series is intended to bring premium 800 Series features to more affordable mobile devices and supplants the 600 Series as the company’s 2018 mid-range chipset of choice.
Among the improvements to expect, Snapdragon 700 phones will benefit for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology, which is capable of juicing up phones to a 50% charge in as little as 15 minutes. Bluetooth 5 support will also be on-board, as will AI and camera optimisations.
“The Snapdragon 700 Mobile Platform Series will bring premium tier technologies and features into more affordable devices, something our global OEM customers and consumers are demanding. From our cutting-edge Qualcomm AI Engine to superior camera, device performance and power, the Snapdragon 700 Series is optimised to support the experiences consumers have come to expect from the most advanced mobile devices at a lower price point,” commented Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Technologies’ mobile division.
We can’t say what the first Snapdragon 700 phones will be and are still waiting on an opportunity to benchmark it, but forthcoming devices like the Moto G6 are in the right tier to get the upgraded chipset. However, at its Mobile World Congress press conference, Huawei told us that Snapdragon 700 phones would start hitting shelves in the second-half of 2018.
