Are Your Nintendo Switch Playtime Data Deleted After A Year?

Did you buy your Nintendo Switch one year ago, when the console was just released? Then maybe you’ll be disappointed to find out that your Nintendo Switch Playtime Data might have been wiped out, just like it was bought today.

More and more Switch users are finding out that their playtime on their console from one year ago is now erased, meaning that hundreds of hours on games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Splatoon 2 show the day you last played, just like it happens when you play the game for the first time.
This issue has been confirmed by Polygon, saying that their review unit that was first used with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild back in February 24th, 2017 is now wiped of all its hundreds of hours in the game. That means that by the time your Nintendo Switch turns one year old, all of your playtime is wiped.
Note that when you buy a new game on your Switch, it takes one week for the console to actually show your play hours. Until then you can only see the first time the game was played.
Users on Reddit and ResetEra that have also grabbed their Nintendo Switches early on are experiencing the same issue. ResetEra user, Executive Taxi says:
This might not seem like a big issue of the bat, but players that want to keep track of their Nintendo Switch Playtime Data or just purely want to brag about their time achievements with their friends will be quite disappointed.
Nintendo hasn’t addressed the issue yet, if that even is an issue or a standard procedure that is. However, Nintendo has addressed their future plans for the console, revealing that it won’t get any hardware updates but will indeed get new peripherals, like Nintendo Labo.
