HTC’s U12+ smartphone is back in the news, but this time with complete specifications and a press render. Legendary leakster Evan Blass (who also goes by Twitter handle @evleaks) has a terrific track record, has detailed the upcoming phone’s features on Venture Beat and also revealed the expected launch date.
Going by the report, the U12+ is internally codenamed Imagine. An anonymous person, who is familiar with the company’s plans, have shared these details with Evan Blass. If the information turns out to be true, the handset will surely be a one-of-its-kind device, using the best-in-class Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB of RAM, and a dual rear-facing camera. Let’s see what the HTC U12+ will offer when it releases after a few months.
Speaking about the HTC U12+’s screen, it is said to feature a 6-inch IPS LCD display with WQHD+ resolution and minimal bezels. The aspect ratio remains unknown as of now, but it could be 18:9 or 19:9. You will be relieved to know that the U12+ will not have the infamous screen notch that’s present in the iPhone X. In comparison, the Huawei P20 Pro, OnePlus 6T, LG G7, and other several Android handsets that are going to be released later this year will feature a display cutout. Google has added support for display and camera cutouts in Android P, which was revealed a few days ago.
The HTC U12+ will be equipped with the recently unveiled Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, which will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There will be a microSD card slot as well. On the software front, the phone is said to boot Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box along with the company’s customised user interface, HTC Sense 10. The phone is believed to feature a dual rear-facing camera, consisting of a 16MP sensor and a 12MP sensor, and an LED flash. Just below the LED flash, there will be a fingerprint reader, which can also be seen in the image. At the front, the U12+ will have a pair of two 8MP camera sensors.
The phone is said to be powered by a 3420mAh battery with fast charging support. Last but not least, the device will also use second-generation Edge Sense feature which will allow users to access their favourite apps or actions just by squeezing the U12+’s side frames using the palm or fingers.
The HTC U12+ was believed to go official by the end of April 2018, but the launch has reportedly been pushed back by a few weeks due to some snag. So, it is now being expected that the HTC U12+ will be officially unveiled sometime in May 2018. Besides the U12+, HTC is also said to be gearing up for the launch of the HTC Desire 12 and the Desire 12+ smartphones, which are internally codenamed ‘Breeze’ and ‘Breeze+’.
