North Korean University seeks advice from Texas A&M

North Korea’s Pyongyang University of Science and Technology recently reached out to Texas A&M for advice in agricultural economics and public health programs, Reuters reported .

The small North Korean university of 500 students is the first and only privately funded university, partially financed by groups and organizations outside the isolated country.
The Pyongyang University of Science and Technology (PUST) opened its doors in 2010 and is well-known for connecting to the outside world, seeking lectures, advice and even non-North Korean students for its campus.

«For us, it is as much a scholarly engagement as an altruistic engagement,» Edward Price, director of Texas A&M’s Center on Conflict and Development in the Department of Agricultural Economics told Reuters. «We are driven by the notion that food security is fundamental to peace. »
