Spotify has increased its subscriber base by another 10 million in less than half a year, growing to 50 million subs since September, and maintaining a significant lead over Apple Music’s 20 million.
A year ago, music streaming service Spotify reported that it had increased its subscriber base to 30 million. Last September, the company said that figure had grown to 40 million in just six months.
Now, Spotify says that it has over 50 million subscribers, an increase of 10 million (25%) in less than half a year.
That means that Spotify is continuing to hold its ground against the increasing threat of rival services, including Apple Music. When Apple launched its music platform in mid-2015 , many assumed that it would grow at breakneck speed, and some believed that it would quickly cause serious problems for Spotify, and other services.
