An influx of Boston terriers and Tibetan Spaniels have arrived at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter after being rescued from a private residence in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Authorities confiscated the 34 dogs on Thursday from a Scotts Valley home after a concerned citizen contacted the shelter. Officers had received previous complaints of dogs being bred at the same address.
Shelter officials said in a press release that the dogs were being kept «in deplorable and inhumane conditions.»
«The dogs did not have food. The dogs did not have water. Some were living in excrement, some in urine, » Animal Services Officer Todd Stosuy told ABC.
Animal shelter officials are investigating the Scotts Valley residence in conjunction with local police.
