Earlier today, Microsoft finally released its OneDrive Files On-Demand feature for Windows Insiders running PC build 16215. Here’s our hands on video with the long-awaited feature.
Earlier today, Microsoft announced the availability of OneDrive Files On-Demand for Windows Insiders that are running PC build 16215. But while it’s rolling out today, you can install it manually if you don’t want to wait, so that’s what we did.
If you’re not familiar, Files On-Demand is a replacement for the deprecated placeholder functionality that was in Windows 8.1. Rather than choosing which folders to sync, you can now see your entire OneDrive, and the system will pull down files as you attempt to use them. Of course, you still have the option to store certain files and folders offline.
While the hands on video that I made demonstrates the setup and some moderate usage of the new feature, I’ve found it to be buggy so far. The new sync client seems to crash a lot, and I was completely unable to use it to sync the screen recording. In other words, don’t go signing your main rig up for the Fast ring to get this just yet.
