Free agent forward Paul Millsap reached agreement on a three-year, $90 million deal with the Denver Nuggets, multiple media outlets reported Sunday.
Millsap talked with the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns before deciding to sign with the Nuggets.
Millsap was an All-Star with the Atlanta Hawks each of the past four seasons, and the Denver Post reported that the Nuggets «landed one of the most significant free agents in franchise history.»
The 11-year veteran will be paired with center Nikola Jokic, giving the Nuggets the makings of a powerful frontcourt.
The 6-foot-8 Millsap averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game last season. He is a strong interior defender, something the Nuggets need after ranking 29th of 30 teams in defensive efficiency last season.
Millsap averaged 24.3 points, 9.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in the Hawks’ first-round playoff loss to the Washington Wizards in April.
Denver team president Josh Kroenke, president of basketball operations Tim Connelly, general manager Arturas Karnisovas, coach Michael Malone and guard Gary Harris made the trip to Atlanta on Saturday to meet with Millsap, according to the Post.
Also on the trip was Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall, who gave a pitch to Millsap about the rise of Denver as a city and what it means to win there.
