«Nazi salutes are indefensible, » a CNN spokesperson said in a statement.
Commentator Jeffrey Lord, one of President Trump’s staunchest defenders on cable news, was dumped by CNN Thursday after he tweeted a Nazi salute to a liberal media analyst.
«Nazi salutes are indefensible, » a CNN spokesperson said in a statement. «Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.»
Lord sent the tweet to Angelo Carusone, the president of the left-leaning news watchdog Media Matter s, in a back and forth with Carusone over a link to an article decrying Media Matters as «anti-free speech bigots» and fascists.
Carusone pointed out the headline to the article misspelled his name and asked Lord, «Why do you expect anyone to take you seriously when you don’t take yourself seriously?»
«Seig Heil!» Lord responded. The phrase, which means «hail victory» in German, was chanted by Adolph Hitler’s supporters as part of the infamous raised-arm Nazi salute.
Lord said he was not endorsing, but mocking Nazis and fascists with the tweet.
«I love CNN, but I feel they are caving to bullies here, » Lord said after learning CNN had let him go, according to the network .
