LG has started the hype for its next handset by announcing that it will arrive with a new OLED FullVision display. The V30 is set to be announced towards the end of the month during IFA Berlin.
LG has announced that its next flagship will be the first to have an OLED FullVision display. This will be the first OLED smartphone in its lineup since 2015’s G Flex 2. The firm states that «OLED displays in smartphones are ideal for VR applications» which could indicate that its next handset might have advanced support for VR, perhaps through Google’s Daydream.
While consumers like smaller handsets, they also like having larger screens. In order to accomplish this, many firms have started to move to thinner bezels on their displays. LG first revealed its FullVision display with the G6, when it announced it back in February at Mobile World Congress. It has also brought the FullVision display to its other handsets like the Q6 series that was more recently announced.
According to LG, the upcoming handset will have a 6-inch QHD+ OLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2880 and will be the firm’s largest in the past few years. It stated that handset’s body will be smaller than the current V20 and that it was able to accomplish this by reducing the upper and lower bezels «by 20 and 50 percent». The firm also moved the LG logo «from the bottom of the display to the back of the phone to maximize viewable screen space». Like the G6, the new display will include support for HDR10 and will be protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.
LG will be holding an event on August 31 to announce its next handset.
