The following is a running chronicle of President Donald Trump’s visit to Hurricane Harvey’s flood-ravaged Texas. It’s an edited compilation of the press pool reports filed by journalists accompanying him on his trip. It is being updated as new dispatches arrive:
At the White House –
President Trump and the First Lady departed the White House residence about 8: 35 am (eastern) to head to Texas. POTUS, wearing a black rain coat and holding a white ball cap, stopped to take a question from the pool.
Q: What are you going to do about North Korea? A: «We’ll see, we’ll see, » Trump said.
He gave a thumbs up to the cameras.
Melania Trump was wearing black stilettos, sunglasses, black capri pants and a khaki color bomber-style coat.
They walked side by side to Marine One. She stepped up first, followed by the president. They didn’t use an umbrella.
It’s a rainy, gloomy and unseasonably cold morning for DC.
They were followed by John Kelly, Keith Schiller and Lindsay Reynolds, from the first lady’s office.
Marine One lifted off the South Lawn at 8: 39 am (eastern) .
Andrews Air Force Base: Despite the rain, there was no bad weather call and POTUS arrived from the White House by air at around 8: 51 am. (eastern)
After Marine One rolled to a stop on the apron, a marine in dress uniform opened the forward door.
Out stepped the President and First Lady. He was wearing kakis, a white shirt and rain jacket. She was wearing black capris, heels, and an army green jacket. They were handed umbrellas and made their way up the steps.
Schiller and Kelly were among the staff who followed.
Before that, spotted inside the terminal building, was Marc Short, the White House Director of Legislative Affairs. He said a quick hello to your pool before heading toward the plane.
Onboard, your pool spotted an official wearing a Small Business Administration’s office of disaster assistance rain jacket sat in the conference room. It appeared to be SBA associate administrator James Rivera, but that could not be confirmed immediately.
NB Vice President Pence stated yesterday that SBA loans would be needed to get flood-hit small firms back on their feet as the waters recede.
We have requested a list of officials aboard.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to gaggle on the flight from Austin to D. C., but we may also get some background on this leg that we can pass along.
At 9: 00 (eastern) Air Force One is moving. Next stop Corpus Christi, Texas.
