The song is from Troy «Trombone Shorty» Andrews’ new album on Blue Note Records, «Parking Lot Symphony.»
Music on «The Late Show with Stephen Colbert» is already quite New Orleans-y, what with Kenner native and NOCCA alum Jon Batiste as bandleader. On Monday night (Aug. 7) , it got even Big Easier, with Trombone Shorty performing «Here Come the Girls, » written by Allen Toussaint and originally recorded by Ernie K-Doe.
The song is from Troy «Trombone Shorty» Andrews’ new album on Blue Note Records, «Parking Lot Symphony.» The New York Times calls the song «retro horn-heavy soul in a jovial remake.»
Shorty told Billboard magazine previously that he included Toussaint’s song on his new album because «everything in that song fits what we do.»
