8-foot waves forecast for some Lake Michigan beaches on Labor Day

Most drownings occur on days with waves similar to this, the National Weather Service said.
GRAND HAVEN, MI — Hazardous conditions with 6 to 8-foot waves are expected at several beaches along Lake Michigan today.
According to the National Weather Service, winds up to 35 mph will impact beaches from St. Joseph to Manistee.
High waves and pier-topping rough waters are not expected to subside until later tonight. Morning waves will be higher, with 4-6 foot waves expected tonight in some areas, the NWS said.
Beaches with particularly dangerous conditions include South Beach in South Haven, Grand Haven State Park, and Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon.

«High wave actions makes swimming difficult and can tire even a strong swimmer quickly, » the NWS said in its beach hazard advisory.
