Donald Trump pledges to tighten sanctions on Pyongyang in call with South Korean president

US President Donald Trump and his South Korean counterpart, Moon Jae-in, vowed on Sunday to bolster their efforts to counter North Korea’s rapidly advancing nuclear and missile programmes.

In a 25 minute phone call, just two days after the rogue regime fired a ballistic missile about 2,300 miles over Japan and into the North Pacific Ocean, the two leaders pledged to  impose “powerful and effective sanctions.”
Increased pressure would make Pyongyang realise that its continuing provocations “will only bring about diplomatic isolation and economic pressures and eventually lead it on the path towards collapse,” said Mr Moon’s spokesman, Park Soo-hyun.
The two presidents are reported to have reached a consensus on the need for Seoul to introduce more US-built advanced weapons systems, although specifics have not yet been agreed.
