With South Florida under a hurricane warning, Facebook has activated its Safety Check feature to help users inform friends and family of their whereabouts as Irma prepares to make landfall.
The feature allows Facebook users to mark they’re safe during a natural disaster or other catastrophic event nearby.
The Safety Check was introduced in 2014, and has been activated for disasters such as earthquakes in Chile and Nepal and terror attacks in Paris and Brussels.
Facebook also activated Safety Check for Texas residents during Hurricane Harvey.
As of 2 p.m. ET, Hurricane Irma had winds of 155 mph. It’s expected to make landfall in Florida on Sunday.
