The Metallica frontman saw everything fade to black when he fell down an open trap door on stage during a show in Amsterdam on Monday night — but he made it ok and continued to rock on.
“Is everybody ok?” Hetfield asked after falling down the chute. “Yes, I’m ok. My ego, not so much. But we’re fine. Hurt my feelings a little bit.”
After being assisted out of the opening by a few stagehands, Hetfield played the rest of “Now That We’ re Dead.”

The trap door was in place in order for a set of drums to come up onto the stage. The percussion tables rose up from the opening just moments later, according to Rolling Stone.
Several fans were able to capture that unfortunate fall on cell phone video.
During Metallica’s most recent North American tour, they traveled with 83 laser fixtures and nearly 40,000 speakers, Rolling Stone reported.
Metallica is currently on a European tour until April.
