ARLINGTON, Tex. – The New York Giants will open the season without star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Beckham has officially been ruled inactive for Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys because of a sprained ankle.
Beckham went through a short workout on the field under the supervision of Giants trainers about two hours before kickoff to test the ankle, which he injured in a preseason game Aug. 21. Beckham was able to sprint in a straight line and hop on one foot, but only ran a handful of half-speed routes.
Beckham has not played since injuring the ankle and he did not participate in any of the Giants’ practices last week but told reporters he was “itching to play” against the Cowboys.
