The two teams were scheduled to play Monday — Wednesday at Tropicana Field, with the Mets off Monday and traveling to face the Cubs.
Joe Girardi acknowledged they were considering playing at a neutral location depending on the forecast.
“I think they’ re still waiting to see the path, ” Girardi said on Thursday. “There have been projections that we would go there (Tampa) Monday, play Tuesday and then have a doubleheader Wednesday. There have been projections that we would go there Tuesday, play a doubleheader Wednesday and then make up the other game, maybe at our park. So I still think that we have to wait and see exactly what happens and then make a decision.”
The Yankees and Rays will then play in the Bronx on Sept. 26-28.
