Russia and China backed another round of United Nations sanctions against North Korea as punishment for the regime’s nuclear weapons program but warned the United States on Tuesday that it would not stand for overthrowing leader Kim Jong Un, according to a report.
“The Chinese side will never allow conflict or war on the peninsula, ” Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in a statement, Bloomberg News reported.
The UN ambassadors from the two countries said they agree on the “four nos” — no regime change, no regime collapse, no stepped-up reunification and no military deployments north of the border separating North and South Korea, the report said.
China and Russia, which joined with the US to impose penalties against North Korea, said sanctions will only go so far in forcing Kim’s government to curb its weapons and called for a diplomatic solution.
