A Muncie woman will face up to 30 years in prison if a judge accepts a plea agreement in a murder case.
MUNCIE, Ind. – A Muncie woman will face up to 30 years in prison if a judge accepts a plea agreement in a murder case.
Logan Jean May, now 23, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to attempted robbery resulting in serious bodily injury as part of a deal that would see three other charges – murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and aggravated battery – dismissed.
May is charged in the April 2016 slaying of her former boyfriend, 24-year-old Rafael Rodriguez, who was fatally shot during an attempted robbery at his westside apartment.
Court documents reflect in a deal negotiated in February by May’s defense attorney, Jill Gonzalez, and Chief Deputy Prosecutor Eric Hoffman, the Muncie woman had agreed to testify against her three co-defendants in the case.
However, co-defendants Marcus Earl Wilson II, 19, and Mason Lee O’Neal, 18, recently struck deals of their own, pleading guilty to murder and burglary, respectively. They have yet to be sentenced.
And co-defendant Cody Buck, 21, is set to enter a guilty plea to an unspecified charge later this month.
In an “offer of proof” attached to her plea agreement, May provided details of the events leading to Rodriguez’s death.
According to that document:
Judge Thomas Cannon Jr. took the plea deal in May’s case under advisement and tentatively set sentencing for Jan. 4.
Wilson will receive a 45-year sentence on Dec. 7 if the judge accepts the terms of that plea bargain.
Neal will face up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 18.
