Here’s what it costs.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 raised the stakes from the 2015 reboot and added in a variety of new content. Many players have been focusing on the addition of a single-player campaign but arguably more important, the game introduces content from both the Prequel and Sequel trilogies. This means we have a whole selection of heroes from those eras to choose from.
These new heroes, with more on the way through free DLC, are either available at the start of the game or will require credits to unlock. This decision has been met with some backlash as this is a fully priced game but still has loot boxes and paywalls for content that many claim should be included in the game.
Wherever you stand on that issue, the fact that we have to grind for credits to unlock many heroes still remains. You’ll need several thousand credits to unlock all the heroes so you’ll need to complete several challenges, play in many multiplayer matches and possibly finish the campaign if you want to get a leg up on every other player.
Here is the list of heroes and the credits needed to unlock them:
The biggest issue many fans have with this system is that characters who were previously free in the other Battlefront, such as Luke and Darth Vader, are now locked behind a paywall and are actually the most expensive heroes in the game.
Grinding for credits isn’t the worst thing in the world but the problem is that the cost of the heroes is a bit steep. A user on Reddit recently did the math that shows the average number of credits a player obtains during a match is 275. Heroes such as Darth Vader cost tens of thousands of credits to unlock so you’ll be putting in a lot of hours just to unlock a single hero.
As a result of this criticism, EA came out with a patch that significantly lowered the price of all the heroes.
So, we’re reducing the amount of credits needed to unlock the top heroes by 75%. Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now be available for 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa for 10,000 credits; and Iden at 5,000 credits. Based on what we’ve seen in the trial, this amount will make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players.
