The foreign minister of Jordan on Sunday evening said he spoke with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson about «dangerous consequences» if the U. S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

«Spoke with U. S. Secretary of State Tillerson on dangerous consequences of recognizing Jerusalem as capital of Israel. Such a decision would trigger anger across [Arab and Muslim] worlds, fuel tension [and] jeopardize peace efforts,» Ayman Safadi tweeted.
The Jordanian official’s tweet came after The Associated Press reported that President Trump is considering naming the holy city as Israel’s new capital.
Trump’s announcement is expected sometime this week, according to the AP.
Observers fear such a decision could spark anger across the region and put American lives there in danger.
Both Palestinians and Israelis claim Jerusalem as their capital, though the international community doesn’t recognize Israel’s claim on the entire city.
Safadi’s tweet came the same day Jared Kushner, Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, said during a Brookings Institution event that the president has yet to decide whether he will move the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, another hot-button issue.
However, the AP’s report suggests that Trump will delay moving the embassy to Jerusalem, a key promise during his presidential campaign.
