Deputies suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
STERLING, VA (WUSA9) — A man has been charged with attempted capital murder after he allegedly shot two Loudoun County deputies on Christmas Eve.
Douglas Johnson Jr. is being held without bond, the sheriff’s office confirmed on Christmas Day.
Three deputies responded to the 46000 block of Hollow Mountain Place in Sterling, Va. at about 4 p.m. Sunday. They were called to help de-escalate a domestic incident.
According to Sheriff Michael Chapman, Johnson got into a fight with his 19-year-old daughter. Deputies tried to mediate, but the suspect went upstairs.
The situation intensified when deputies followed him up the stairs to make an arrest.
“From what we can gather, and again, this is preliminary information, he reached for a gun and almost simultaneously, he was tazed, and as he was being apprehended, he managed to get several shots off,” said Sheriff Chapman.
Sheriff Chapman said Johnson shot two deputies. A female deputy was shot in the leg after she jumped on Johnson when she believed the suspect was going to use a firearm, the sheriff explained. The suspect also hit a male deputy in the arm and both legs.
The deputies are in stable condition at a hospital on Christmas. The third deputy on the scene took the suspect into custody.

“I’m just grateful, with all things being considered, that it’s…turned out as good as it has,” said Sheriff Chapman.
Police also believe that there were two others in the house at the time of the shooting: the mother and a 16-year-old son.
A spokesperson for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said police believe it was the daughter who made the initial 9-1-1 call.
