HMD Global has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update to the Nokia 5 mid-range smartphone.

Last month, HMD Global started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Nokia 8 ( review) flagship. Now, the company has kicked off the Android 8.0 Oreo beta update program for the Nokia 5 ( review) mid-range smartphone as well. The phone was originally launched running a stock version of Android 7.1 Nougat, and has now started receiving the Oreo beta update.
Nokia 5 users can go to the Nokia beta labs website to enrol for the update. Unfortunately, the company hasn’t revealed when the stable build of the new OS will be released to the Nokia 5. Also, the changelog of the new Android build for the device hasn’t been released at the moment. However, the update is expected to come with improved performance and enhanced stability. To recap on the Nokia 5, the phone was launched in the country in mid-August in a single 2GB RAM variant, which is priced at Rs 12,499. However, the company recently launched a new 3GB RAM model of the phone in the country, which is available for Rs 13,499. The Nokia 5 comes with a 5.2-inch display bearing a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. The handset has a layer of Corning’s Gorilla glass for protection against scratches. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, coupled with 2GB to 3GB of RAM. The storage capacity on board is 16GB, with support for microSD cards up to 128GB in size.
For imaging, there is a 13-megapixel primary camera with phase detection autofocus, f/2.0 aperture and dual-tone flash. On the front, the Nokia 5 has been equipped with an 8-megapixel autofocus unit with a pixel size of 1.12um and an 84-degree wide-angle lens. A 3,000mAh battery completes the list of the specs.
