Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi Note series smartphone, the Redmi Note 5, has been the subject of a number of headlines lately. Some recent reports indicated that the brand could launch the Redmi 5 Plus as the Redmi Note 5 in markets other than China. Others suggested that the phone will be unveiled in the second quarter of this year with better specs than the Redmi 5 Plus. Now a report by the Chinese publication MyDrivers has leaked the alleged core specs of the Redmi Note 5, which are different than the specs of the Redmi 5 Plus. The publication has also leaked details regarding the variants and pricing of the Redmi Note 5.
According to the source, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 has recently received 3C certification in China with two model numbers – Xiaomi MEE7S and MET7S. The report claims that the phone will come with a premium metal unibody design with nano-injection molding. The device will feature a 5.99-inch full HD+ display bearing an aspect ratio of 18.9. Since the handset will offer an all-screen front, its fingerprint sensor is expected to be placed at the rear.
The source also suggests that the Redmi Note 5 will come in two configurations. The base variant will offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. The higher-end model will allegedly sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, mated to a beefier 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
As per the report, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 will come with a dual camera setup at the rear comprising of a 16MP main sensor and a 5MP secondary shooter. For selfies and video calling, the phone will have an 8-megapixel snapper. Just like its predecessor, the Redmi Note 5 is also said to arrive with a 4,100mAh battery, but this time with 18W fast charging support. The device will run MIUI 9, and is tipped to feature facial recognition too.
Coming to the pricing, the source claims that the base model of the Redmi Note 5 will cost RMB 1,499 (~Rs 15,000), while the higher-end variant will set you back by RMB 1,799 (~Rs 18,000).
