«They block efforts to keep citizens safe…»
On Sunday morning, Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were killed when they were struck by a black Ford F-150 allegedly driven by Manuel Orrego-Savala. Orrego-Savala is also accused of driving drunk.
Police stated that Orrego-Savala, a citizen of Guatemala, was in the country illegally and had been deported twice — in 2007 and 2009.
State Sen. Michael Williams (R-Ga.), who is running for governor, released a statement mourning the loss of Jackson, who was a Georgia native. Then, he turned his attention to Democrats similar to his opponent, state Rep. Stacey Abrams (D-Ga.).
“Every murder, every rape and every crime committed by an illegal against an American citizen is enabled by Democrats like Stacey Abrams,” the statement said.
He acknowledged the harsh nature of the comment but stated that the “facts are obvious.”
Williams said that Democrats are not keeping Americans safe and are “complicit” in crimes carried out by undocumented immigrants.
“Democrats like Stacey Abrams fight against the border wall and other means to keep illegals out of our country,” he said. “They block efforts to keep citizens safe, making them complicit in each crime committed by an illegal. It’s that simple.”
Orrego-Savala reportedly tried to leave the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward. The Colts offered their “thoughts and prayers” to both Jackson and Monroe’s families.
