A third child has died of flu-related illness in the city, the Health Department said on Friday.
“The tragic death of a child due to the flu is a reminder of the devastating effects this illness can have on people of all ages,” said Julien Martinez, a spokesman for the agency.
“The influenza season is far from over, and it is not too late to get the flu shot. We urge parents to protect themselves and their families by getting this potentially life-saving vaccine today.”
He did not offer any other details.
Earlier this week, the department confirmed that two children had died from the flu, including a Queens girl who was diagnosed on Sunday and passed away a day later.
Nationally, there have been 106 influenza-associated pediatric deaths.
