After 'Roseanne' Historic Debut, Trump Picks Up the Phone to Talk With Actor Personally — Here's What He Said

The reboot of comedian Roseanne Barr’s eponymous sitcom was a wild success Tuesday night for the very same reason President Donald Trump won the election — people are finally seeing themselves on TV.
For years, working, middle-class families with conservative roots have felt left out. But in Trump’s America, they’re the stars of the show.
On its first night, ABC’s “Roseanne” drew a whopping 18 million viewers. So the president called Barr to congratulate her on the show’s epic success, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed to The New York Times.
A person familiar with the call said Trump was thrilled with the sitcom and commended Barr for its “huge” ratings.
On the show, Barr’s character — Roseanne Connor — is a Trump supporter navigating a politically divided family of five. The leading character’s sister, Jackie Harris, supported former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, though she ultimately voted for third-party candidate Jill Stein.
In an interview ahead of the revived sitcom’s first episode, Barr spoke with late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and defended her real-life support for Trump. She told the host, “I’m still the same — you all moved!”
“You all went so f**king far out,” Barr exclaimed, “you lost everyone!”
