Acer has announced the availability of the latest edition of the ZenBook Flip S convertible notebook in India. The Taiwanese company claims it to be one of the world’s thinnest and lightest convertible laptop that weighs in at 1.1 Kg and measures just 11.2mm at the thickest point. The laptop features a 360-degree rotating touchscreen, comes with Windows 10, and is powered by the latest 8th generation Intel Core processor.
Asus is launching ZenBook Flip S in India priced at Rs. 1,30,990. The initial sales will be conducted by leading retailers across the country, with online sales to follow soon after. It will be available in two colour options: Royal Blue and Smoky Grey.
In terms of technical specifications, the Asus ZenBook Flip S features a 13.3-inch LED-Backlight Full HD (1920 x 1080) display which boasts 178-degree wide viewing angles. This is a multi-touch capable display that has Corning Gorilla Glass protection and still weighs in at just 1.1 Kg. Asus says that the laptop’s chassis is crafted from “aerospace-grade aluminium alloy“ that is apparently “50% stronger than standard alloy.”
As mentioned earlier, this laptop is powered by the latest 8th generation Intel Core i7-8550U which is a quad-core processor with a base frequency of 1.8Ghz that can Turbo Boost up to 4.0GHz. In terms of graphics, the ZenBook Flip S, unfortunately, does not have any dedicated GPU and instead relies on Intel UHD Graphics 620. This is common for laptops of this form factor. Concerning memory, the laptop comes with 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM and offers 512Gb of SATA3 SSD storage.
Asus is proud of the craftsmanship involved in developing the ZenBook Flip S. The 360-degree screen flip is achieved using Asus’ ErgoLift hinge which Asus is flaunting to be the world’s most compact flippable hinge. Asus says the ErgoLift hinge has been torture-tested by more than 20,000 open/close cycles. The all-metal unibody design has had it edges diamond-cut to “add a touch of luxury.”
The 13.3-inch FHD display on the Asus ZenBook Flip S has a pixel density of 331ppi with a screen to body ratio of 80%. Asus has included its Eye Care technology which will reduce blue-light up to 30%. Further, the laptop will be able to support up to 2 external 4K displays. This can be done through the USB Type-C ports located on both sides of the device that support USB 3.1 specification.
You will need to use a dongle to expand the USB Type-C’s various features, and luckily, Asus will ship the laptop with an included dongle. The all-in-one USB-C Universal Dock can be used as an SD card reader and comes with LAN, VGA, HDMI, USB 3.0 Type-A and USB Type-C port. The USB Type-C ports also double as charging ports and are claimed to charge 60% of the laptop’s battery in 49 minutes. The battery itself is claimed to last up to 11 hours on a full charge, but your real-world mileage may vary.
Other multimedia features of the Asus ZenBook Flip S include a dual Harman Kardon-certified stereo speaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a webcam. It also features a backlight keyboard with 1mm travel distance and a glass-covered touchpad with Asus Smart Gesture support for up to four-finger gesture commands. The touchpad also incorporates Palm rejection technology and handwriting support.
On the right side of the convertible, we can find a fingerprint scanner alongside a volume rocker and power button. The fingerprint scanner is a great companion to operate with Windows Hello as it can even detect a partial fingerprint. The laptop even boasts full support for the ASUS pen along with Windows Ink.
