HMD Global has scheduled a launch event In New Delhi where we expect it to launch the 2018 lineup of Nokia smartphones. According to the media invites sent out by HMD, the event will take place on April 4. Originally unveiled at MWC 2018, the expected list of mobiles phones launching includes the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 8 Sirocco, and Nokia 8110 4G at the event. The event follows the recent launch of the Nokia 1 Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone in India which was also unveiled alongside the other smartphones at MWC 2018.
The invite does not mention which devices are coming, so it is a possibility that HMD Global might not release all of these devices together. With that said, most sources expect the Nokia 6 (2018) to most likely launch among all the mentioned handsets. In any case, let’s take a look at all the information we have about these devices right now.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a refresh of Nokia’s 2017 flagship Nokia 8. The new handset is being powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and gets 6GB of RAM. It will pack 128GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 256GB. The Nokia 8 Sirocco has a 5.5-inch P-OLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixels resolution. Both the front and back of the device is covered in glass panels that sandwich a stainless steel frame. The device is also IP67 water and dust resistant.
The device features a dual camera setup at the rear, both of which are 12-megapixel shooters The camera setup even features Optical Image Stabilisation. At the front, we get a 5-megapixel camera. It will come packed with a 3260mAh battery with fast charging support.
We expect the Nokia 8 Sirocco to be priced somewhere around Rs. 60,000.
The successor to 2017’s Nokia 7, the Nokia 7 Plus is more of a mid-range offering with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. It comes with 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of expandable memory. It has a large 6-inch LCD screen with a 1080 x 2160 pixels resolution. This would be the first phone from HMD to feature a full-front 18:9 aspect ratio display.
In the imaging department, we get a 12MP + 13MP rear shooter which can record videos at 4K and up to 30fps. Unlike the Nokia 8 Sirocco, this smartphone features EIS. At the front, the phone offers a 16MP selfie camera which will be able to capture 1080p videos at 30fps. It is backed by a 3,800mAh battery and comes with fast charging support.
The Android 8.0 Oreo equipped smartphone is expected to be priced around Rs. 20,000
The 2018 edition of Nokia 6 is powered by the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 and is expected to arrive in 3 and 4GB RAM variants with 32 and 64 GB of storage respectively. The screen is a 5.5 inch IPS LCD with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. Its 16 MP rear camera comes with phase detection autofocus and a dual-LED dual-tone flash. At the front, we get an admirable 8MP camera. In terms of battery life, the handset will feature a 3,000mAh battery.
The Nokia 6 (2018) will come in Black+Copper, White+Iron and Blue+Gold colour options. The Android One powered smartphone is expected to arrive priced around Rs. 16,500.
The Nokia 8110 4G brings with it a wave of nostalgia. Powered by a Snapdragon 205 and 512GB of RAM, it is apparent that this is a feature phone with an affordable price tag. It will offer a 2.4-inch QVGA curved display. It has a 2MP rear camera and packs a 1,500mAh battery that is slated to give a battery life of 17 days and 9 days of talk-time.
This device will come in Traditional Black and Banana Yellow colour options. It is expected to go on sale for Rs. 6,300.
