Singer The Weeknd took fans by surprise Thursday when he told his more than 16 million Instagram followers that he’s dropping a brand new album at midnight—making Good Friday that much better.
The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, hinted at the possibility of a new album on Instagram Wednesday. The «Party Monster» singer shared a screenshot of a text conversation he had with an unknown person. «Should we drop Friday?» the musician questioned . «I’m indifferent, to be honest.»
Then a billboard in London confirmed fans’ brewing theories—the advertisement featured the sentence «New Album from The Weeknd. Available Now,» according to Forbes. This fell below the album’s title, My Dear Melancholy.
My Dear Melancholy will be The Weeknd’s fourth studio album and comes nearly a year and a half after Starboy, the singer’s third album. Starboy went platinum twice and earnrf a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album in January.
Representatives for The Weeknd did not return Newsweek ‘s request for comment. The Weeknd’s XO Crew, a name commonly attributed to his fanbase, appear to be thrilled by the unexpected announcement. Rapper Travis Scott is among those excited for The Weeknd’s return; unlike most fans, Scott has insinuated that he’s already heard the «Pray for Me» singer’s new music.

«Abel new album is scray,» Scott wrote on Twitter in early March . «It’s like when I first heard him for the first time.»
No tracklist or singles for this album have been released ahead of the arrival. However, the album is rumored to be primarily produced Toronto-based producer Frank Dukes, Variety reported. Dukes previously lent his expertise to albums for Kanye West, Drake and Rihanna.
Most recently, Dukes worked with Fifth Harmony alum Camila Cabello on her debut album in January, titled Camila .
