A new BioShock game is reportedly in the works at an unnamed 2K studio, according to Kotaku. While reporting on Mafia III developer Hangar 13 and its troubled year since the game’s launch, sources speaking with Kotaku revealed that former Hangar 13 employees went on to work on the as of yet unannounced BioShock Game.

A new BioShock game is reportedly in the works at an unnamed 2K studio, according to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier. While reporting on Mafia III developer Hangar 13 and its troubled year since the game’s launch, sources speaking with Schreier revealed that former Hangar 13 employees went on to work on the as of yet unannounced BioShock Game.
This new BioShock is allegedly being developed right next door to Hangar 13. Despite the amount of secrecy surrounding the project, word got out that the project code-named Parkside was actually the next entry in the BioShock franchise.
“If anyone from Hangar 13 tried to strike up a conversation with them, they’d say, ‘Oh, we can’t really talk about it,’” said a source familiar with the studio in the report. “It was all very tight-lipped.”
BioShock will also continue to use the Unreal Engine according to the report. Different iterations of the engine have been used for every BioShock game released so far, whether it be from the now rebranded Irrational Games or 2K Marin.
Unfortunately for fans of the series, it still sounds like the game may be a ways away from launch. Many developers from Hangar 13 who tried to hop over to work on Parkside were not able to find a position.
“The issue is that Parkside’s not ready for lots of people,” said another person involved with goings-on at the company. “They’re trying to be really smart about figuring out what the core thing is. They’re careful about not falling into the same problem every studio has, where they have too many people and nothing for them to do.”
It’s not a surprise that a new BioShock game is in development considering the popularity of the series. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has already stated that it is a permanent franchise for the company. On top of that, previous Take-Two earnings calls have revealed that “a highly anticipated new title from one of 2K’s biggest franchises” will release by March 31,2019. There’s a high probability this title is Borderlands 3, but BioShock also fits the bill.
Until E3, we’ll just have to stick with our imaginations about what comes next.
