Towards the end of 2015, HP launched the Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop in Malaysia which then subsequently made its way to us for review and unfortunately ended up as a disappointment. Fast forward to today, it turns out that HP has used the name once again for its latest gaming notebook but this time around, it seems that things might be better.
Like to take over the role of the popular Pavilion Power 15 which is actually a decent entry-level gaming-grade model, the 2018 Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15 can be obtained with up to either 8th Gen Intel Core i7 H or U-series processors. There is also the Core i7+ H-series option as well for those who want to have 16GB of Intel Optane in their unit as their storage accelerator.
While it will likely vary from market to market, customers are given the option of either AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce GTX when it comes to the graphics on Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15. The maximum option given to customers are AMD Radeon RX 560X or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q.
HP provides plenty of display options as well for the Pavilion Gaming 15 including 144Hz in full HD as well as 60Hz panel in full HD and 4K. Same case applies for its storage options which are available in the form of 2TB hard drive or 256GB PCIe NVMe solid state drive for single storage setup.
For dual storage option, customers can choose up to 256GB PCI NVMe SSD and 1TB HDD combo. As for the Optane-based model that we mentioned early on, it comes with up to 1TB HDD. While we need to wait for the actual to arrive in our hands before we can provide a proper verdict, the 2018 version seems way more capable than what the company released into our market in 2015.
However, we don’t expect the laptop to appear in Malaysia anytime soon as the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop will only be hitting United States at the end of May 2018.
