Michigan State Police are investigating an alleged freeway shooting on I-94 near Van Dyke that left a man in critical condition Saturday.
State police said that according to preliminary information, a man and his passenger had just left a bar, and they were driving on the freeway at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he was shot.
«They heard a pop and the driver felt pain,» MSP Metro Detroit said in a statement shared on Twitter. «He exited the freeway and the passenger took over driving and drove to receiving hospital.»
The driver is currently in surgery and was listed in critical condition, state police said.
Eastbound I-94 at Mt. Elliott was closed while state police detectives searched for evidence, but it is now open.
State police said the investigation is ongoing, and they are still working to determine whether or not the shooting took place on the freeway.
