The star defensive end for the Houston Texas, J. Watt, is, once again, coming to the rescue of his community members. He will pay for the funerals of all ten students and teachers senselessly murdered in a school shooting last week at Houston’s Santa Fe High School.
Watt told the school he would cover all funeral expenses over the weekend, after Tweeting that the shooting, which took the lives of at least ten people and injured several others, was «horrific.»
Since joining the Texans, Watt has become an indispensable part of the Houston community, sharing not just his own wealth, but raising money for those around him impacted by poverty and natural disaster. Last summer, Watt raised more than $37 million for victims of Hurricane Harvey, which came ashore near Houston and left many of his neighbors homeless and in dire straits.
The Houston Texans also released a statement about the shooting.
«On behalf of the Texans organization, we are saddened by the tragic events at Santa Fe High School this morning and extend our thoughts and heartfelt condolences to the victims, their families and all those affected. We are grateful for the brave first responders, law enforcement officials and medical personnel. The Texans family will continue to pray for our neighbors.»
The Houston shooter is in custody and facing multiple first degree murder charges.
