After all of the rumors and leaks, an official rating for the Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite appears, lending credibility that an announcement is coming soon.
Since Battle Royale launched for free last year, Fortnite continues to be a cultural and gaming juggernaut for PC and console players. One group that hasn’t been able to experience the game, however, has been Nintendo Switch fans, though rumors have been heating up as of late thanks to a potential leak which showed an E3 2018 list of upcoming Switch games including that familiar Fortnite logo. After a lot of back and forth over the past few months, it seems that the Nintendo Switch version of Fortnite is now all but confirmed.
Just days after that leak, the Korean Game Rating Board has seemingly spoiled the E3 surprise as the Switch version of Fortnite has now been given an official rating. Epic Games Korea, the satellite studio currently under litigation from PUBG developer Bluehole, is listed as the applicant which certainly lends additional credibility to an upcoming Switch version. As expected, the rating for the game is set at a minimum age of 12 years old, putting it on par with the teen rating here in the United States.
Interestingly enough, the listing page describes the experience as one where players collect resources, build structures, and stop monsters. Nowhere is it mentioned that players fight other players, indicating that the Switch version could be launching only with the PvE mode, Save the World. Just like the other major platforms, Epic could always add Battle Royale at a later date, but without it, it’s unclear of how appealing the game would be for Switch owners. While Save the World does have its fair share of fans, it goes without saying that the majority of Fortnite’s appeal comes from the high-intensity moments of Battle Royale.
Fans have been chomping at the bit, including high profile individuals like Chance the Rapper, to see this massively popular shooter come to Nintendo’s smash hit console. Pairing the console’s portable nature with the addictive gameplay from Fortnite seems like a no-brainer and will likely only serve to push the popularity of the device and game even further. Rumors of cross-platform play and exclusive content have also been prevalent with any talk regarding the Switch version and with such a large player base on the console, bringing Fortnite there seems like only a matter of time.
