Samsung told Bloomberg that the company will be launching the successor to the Note 8 on Aug 9, at its ‘Unpacked’ event.
Reports say Samsung will be launching the most-anticipated Galaxy Note 9 a week or two early this year. In 2017, the South Korean smartphone manufacturer unveiled the Note 8 in last third week of August. This year Samsung may launch its Note device in the first week of August. Sources close to Samsung and the development of Note 9 told Bloomberg that the company will be launching the successor to the Note 8 on Aug 9, at its ‘Unpacked’ event.
Like last year, the ‘Unpacked’ event is scheduled to take place in New York. There are no details on the India launch for now. However, following Samsung’s track record, the company may bring Galaxy Note 9 to India in the first half of September. Last year, Samsung had launched the Note 8 in India in the second week of September. Chances are Note 9 may also come around the same time.
Apart from revealing the launch details of the tablet, the Bloomberg report also highlighted some of the specs that Samsung may include in Note 9. Compared to the Galaxy Note 8, the Note 9 is tipped to come with an «upgraded» camera setup.
Galaxy Note 8 comes with a dual camera system on the rear consisting of two 12-megapixel cameras on the rear, one of which comes with a f/1.7 aperture and optical image stabilization, while the second one has a f/2.4 aperture and optical image stabilisation to allow for up to 2X optical zoom. On the front, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with an 8-megapixel camera similar to that of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. The Note 9 will follow the trend of dual cameras. Currently, there are no details available on the Note 9 camera.
The Note 9 will boast of the similar design as the Note 8, meaning the tablet will come with bezel-less design. The tablet is also said to come with an upgraded processor from Qualcomm, meaning it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, the same processor which is seen on the newly launched Xiaomi Mi 8, Galaxy S9/S9+, OnePlus 6 and other new flagship phones. However, the Bloomberg report notes that the Note 9 with the upgraded Qualcomm processor will come only to select markets, which means, just like Note 8, Note 9 may come with Exynos chip in India. To recall, the Note 8 was launched with Snapdragon 835 chipset in some markets, while in India the device comes with Exynos chipset, probably to lower the pricing. The Note 8 was launched in India for Rs 67,900.

The Galaxy Note 9 stopped by Geekbench last week. The benchmarking listing revealed some key specs of the tablet. The benchmark listing spotted Note 9 in two variants, one with Snapdragon 845 and the second one with running on Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chipset. This could be the model that will come to India. The Geekbench listing shows that the Galaxy Note 9 running Exynos chipset scored 2737 and 9067 in single-core and multi-core, respectively. While the model powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset score slightly lower than the Exynos model. The listing shows the Galaxy Note 9 score 2190 in single-core and 8860 in multi-core.
Other hardware specs that Note 9 may come with are — 6.38-inch OLED Infinity Display, 3,850mAh battery, and an improved S-Pen and a better UI. The smartphone is expected to come in three models — 6GB RAM/64GB storage, 6GB RAM/128GB and 8GB RAM with 516GB of internal storage.
