HMD Global, the licensee of the Nokia brand, launched its first-ever notched-display smartphone – Nokia X6 ( first impressions) in China earlier this year. While the brand initially maintained that the smartphone will remain a China-exclusive, later Juho Sarvikas CPO at HMD Global hinted that the handset might see a global launch. Post that, we saw the global variant of the smartphone turn up on NCC, Nokia’s Indian website and its global website. Now, a report from a major publication in Hong Kong claims that the device will launch in Hong Kong on July 19th, marking its global debut.
According to the report, the brand is all set to launch its notched flagship with a new moniker – Nokia 6.1 Plus. Apart from the new name, everything else about the handset is expected to remain the same including the spec sheet. To recap, the Nokia X6 comes with a 5.8-inch display with a full HD+ screen resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio and a cutout on the top. Driving the performance of the smartphone is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. Nokia is offering the smartphone in China in three configurations – 4GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage.
Moving on to the imaging department, the Nokia X6 flaunts a 16MP primary camera accompanied by a 5MP secondary sensor on the rear panel. For selfies and video calling, the smartphone gets a 16-megapixel shooter on the front. For security, there is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock. Also, the handset is an Android One offering, which means it comes with the latest stock Android 8.1 Oreo and is entitled to regular updates from Google. A 3,060mAh battery completes the spec sheet of the smartphone.
As of now, the global pricing and availability of the smartphone is not known. In China, the 4GB RAM/32GB storage variant of the Nokia X6 has been priced at RMB 1,299 (~Rs 13,800) and the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant at RMB 1,499 (~Rs 16,000). On the other hand, the 6GB RAM variant will set you back by RMB 1,699 (~Rs 18,100).
