Keeping up with the speculations Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has officially announced its new chipset: the Kirin 710. The company demonstrated the key highlights of this new chipset an event in China where it also announced the Nova 3, Nova 3i and the TalkBand 5. The newly unveiled chipset is built using TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company), world’s largest independent semiconductor foundry’s 12nm manufacturing process technology which makes it the first-of-its-kind in the Kirin series of SoCs.
Considering the other details of the Kirin 710 it is the octa-core chipset that makes use of four ARM Cortex-A73 bigger cores clocked at 2.2GHz and the other four smaller ARM Cortex-A53 cores are clocked at 1.7GHz. The chipset is aided with ARM’s Mali-G51 MP4 GPU for a persuasive performance that is 1.3 times faster than its predessor, the ARM-Mali T830 MP2 GPU. The company claims that it has upgraded the DSP and ISP that can offer significant improvement in the camera department, particularly in low-light imaging.
In addition to the upgradation in DSP and ISP the Kirin 710 also offers AI features that make it capable of providing scene recognition and face unlock. Other notable changes you can see in this chipset is its 300 Mbps (Megabit per second) down/150 Mbps Cat 12/13 speeds and has a Dual SIM + Dual VoLTE support that lets you use the standard 4G and VoLTE on both SIMs at the same time. The first smartphone to pack the Kirin 710 chipset is the Nova 3i which has been launched in China. The same device will come to India on July 26 where Huawei will also be announcing the Nova 3.
In the popular benchmarking app, Geekbench 4.1, the Nova 3i offers 75 percent better single-core score and 68 percent better multi-core score compared to the Kirin 659, claims Huawei. The device sports a 6.3-inch Full HD + 19:5:9 display, packs 4GB/6GB (Gigabyte) of RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage and runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2. In terms of imaging, the Nova 3i sports a 16MP+2MP dual camera setup and even has a dual sensor present at the front that includes a 24MP+2MP camera. The whole package is powered by a 3,340mAh battery though it lacks fast charging support.
