China-based smartphone maker Huawei has recently launched two new smartphones introducing the Nova series in India. The Nova 3i is a mid-range offering while the Nova 3 is a flagship-like handset from the company. Both the smartphones have dual cameras on both the front and the back with AI integration, along with a display notch that house the sensors and the front camera module. Now, let’s check what different features and specifications these smartphones have to offer.
The Nova 3 is the premium handset from Huawei. The smartphone boasts a large 6.3-inch IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The Huawei Nova 3 flaunts a full metal body and also sports a rear-mounted fingerprint display. The Nova 3i also features an identical 6.3-inch full-HD+ LTPS display with the similar resolution and aspect ratio as that of Nova 3. The Huawei Nova 3 also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Both the smartphones are identical when it comes to the exteriors. Let’s check out what’s under the hood.
Under the hood, the Nova 3 is loaded with a powerful 2.4GHz octa-core Hi-Silicon Kirin 970 chipset which is coupled with 6GB of RAM to ensure smooth sailing. You can work on multiple tabs and play games at the same time without thinking about the performance of the device. As for Nova 3i, there is an octa-core proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 710 chipset at its heart, which is paired with 4GB of RAM to ensure seamless and lag-free performance. The Kirin 710 is a brand-new chipset from Huawei for mid-range smartphones.
The Huawei Nova 3 justifies its price tag in the imaging department. For optics, the Nova 3 features a quad camera set up. The primary camera at the rear is a 16-megapixel unit with f/1.8 aperture whereas the secondary camera at the rear is a monochrome sensor 24-megapixel sensor again with an aperture of f/1.8. The primary 16-megapixel camera can also record 4K videos at 30fps in the highest setting. The front camera is a 24-megapixel shooter paired with a 2-megapixel depth-sensing snapper.
The Nova 3i also features a quad camera setup but with a 16-megapixel primary camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. At the front, the device houses a 24-megapixel primary snapper and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Both the smartphones feature LED flash to capture images in poor lighting conditions.
The Nova is fuelled by a large 3750 mAh battery while the Nova 3i is powered by a slightly smaller 3340mAh battery. On the software front, the Nova 3 runs EMUI 8.2 out of the box which is based on Android 8.1 which is identical to the OS in Nova 3i. For connectivity, the Nova 3 ships with multiple high-end options including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio, and USB Type-C. For storage, both Nova 3 and Nova 3i offer an onboard storage of 128GB which can be expanded further up to 256GB using the Hybrid SIM slot via a microSD card. The connectivity options on Nova 3i include support for Dual-SIM cards, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, USB 2.0, GLONASS, GPS/ A-GPS, and Bluetooth v4.2 LE.
The Nova 3i, which comes in only one storage variant is priced at Rs. 20,990 in India, whereas the expensive sibling comes with a price tag of Rs. 34,999. You can pre-order the Nova 3i on Amazon, but can only get your hands on the smartphone next month as the Nova 3i will go on the sale starting August 7. The pre-orders of the more expensive Nova 3 is still not known and regarding the sale, the smartphone will join the party a little late on August 23.
