LG launches two flagships smartphones every year, the G series, and the V series. Since the company has already launched the G7 ThinQ flagship smartphone, it is now time for rumors about the LG V40.
The LG V40 will be the successor of the V30 flagship that was released in September last year. It was a great phone, but it did lack in a few areas. There have been rumors about a V35 device as well, but nothing substantial has surfaced about that yet. However, new reports about the V40 has hit the interwebs and we now know a few things about the upcoming flagship from LG. Previous leaks have revealed that the LG V40 is being called ‘Storm’ internally.
As per sources, the LG V40 will carry a similar design language to the LG G7. You are going to get a display with a notch on top, and a build that uses glass and metal. The back will be made of glass, similar to the G7 Thinq.
LG has stuck to a similar design over the past few years, and they have all been solid. The LG G7 Thinq got IP68 and MIL -STD 810G certification, making it a very durable device. Therefore, expect the same with the LG V40 as well. Even the previous gen. V30 was a very well built phone with some solid features and top notch hardware.
The company has mostly focused on video recording, Audio, and giving users a really good wide-angle camera. The LG V30 had that, and the V40 will also have that, but in a much improved way. The notch at the front of the phone is set to house an iPhone X like 3D face mapping tech. There will be two cameras at the front, and three at the back. Alright, let us talk about the cameras some more.
As mentioned, the LG V40 will supposedly come with 5 camera sensors. Two at the front for selfies and face unlock, and three at the back. The three cameras at the back will all serve different purposes, according to the sources.
One of the cameras at the back will be a ultrawide-angle lens, which is what LG has been doing best with its previous flagships. Apart from that, a standard wide lens, and another lens would be present at the back. The third lens could either be a zoom lens, or used for depth information. Either way, this would be the second smartphone after the Huawei P20 Pro, to have a triple-camera setup.
LG has always done well with imaging, and the V series usually stands-out from the rest when it comes to video recording. The V series also features a Quad DAC for the headphone, which is quite rare on smartphones. This means amazing video and audio quality. The LG V40 should be doing a lot of things right then.
So, apart from a 5 camera setup, and a design similar to the G7 ThinQ, what else can you expect from the V40? Well, for starters, it will mostly come with the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, which would be coupled with plenty of RAM and internal storage to save all those photos and videos.
And as mentioned earlier, a 32-bit quad DAC with a headphone jack is also expected. As for the screen size and panel technology, it is believed that the LG V40 might retain a similar screen size as to the G7. However, this time, the company could make a shift to an OLED panel instead of LCD.
You will also get a fingerprint sensor at the back, a separate button for Google Assistant, and a large battery. Expect fast charging thanks to Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4 tech.
So, basically, the LG V40 is real, and it too will most likely get the ThinQ branding to implify that there’s AI in the mix. LG smartphones are actually very good, but they really haven’t shown it to the big names like Google and Apple in terms of photography. That should change with this model.
