Riverdale, Riverdale. Geek has gone above and beyond with phenomenal reviews of the hit CW show for our audience. They’ve been the best if you need help keeping up with the madcap crazy of what this show is. In their third SDCC appearance, Riverdale brings secrets and goodies from the cast, crew, and producers of the show. They let fans in on as much information they could give about what they have up their sleeves for Season 3.
When we last left Riverdale, Jughead (Cole Sprouse) was named the new King of the Southside Serpents with Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) becoming a member. Hiram Lodge (Mark Consuelos) is out for minor world domination. He continues his quest to control Riverdale while slowly but surely forming alliances to move into SoDale. Archie’s (KJ Apa) arrested for a crime he didn’t commit during his inauguration after being elected student body president. In Hall H, we’re #blessed with a new teaser trailer for season three, set to blow everyone’s mind.
It seems like we’re going to pick up right where we left off. The episode titled, “Labor Day” will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and directed by Kevin Sullivan. During the panel, moderated by Kelly Ripa, KJ Apa states that Archie’s trail will be the first thing coming out of new season.
In the teaser for season three, we’re introduced to the gang trying to enjoy a little bit of their Labor Day. In the, now running, car that Archie and Fred (Luke Perry) have fixed, the gang head out to swim. Jughead contemplates as he watches his friends. Veronica and Archie are locked inside their own world. We’re also introduced to some cult-y activity involving Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amik) and Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) as they hold babies over a big ol’ fire. Yup, not creepy at all ladies.
The panel has the main stars lined up with Camila Mendes (Veronica), Lili Reinhart (Betty), Ashleigh Murray (Josie), Vanessa Morgan (Toni Topaz), Marisol Nichols (Hermione Lodge), Casey Cott (Kevin Keller), Skeet Ulrich (F. P Jones II), and Executive Producers Sarah Schecter and Jon Goldwater, joining as well.
Roberto promises more of the high school in the third season stating, “ One of the things we talked about in the writers’ room is how important junior year is… We’re going to try to infuse this season with a lot more high school stuff… We’re going to be talking about SATs, internships, colleges, etc.”
The cast talks about their characters going into season three and how things may change for all of them. Madelaine Petsch talks about how Cheryl’s coming out will be an evolution for her character since Toni has helped her. Marisol’s Hermione is coming into her power. According to Mark, Hiram wants to make Veronica a living hell. Veronica, in turn, becomes a bit more of an entrepreneur in this season with her speakeasy. Reggie (Charles Melton) also may be working there with a… romance?!
We’ll also FINALLY be seeing Jughead’s mum and Jellybean in season three. A mystery will also cement Jughead and Betty’s relationship and make them a mystery fighting duo again. The season also will highlight the friendships coming together, especially between the main four, Betty, Veronica, Archie and Jughead.
Other elements that will come in this new season are varied. This includes flashbacks, musical episode (yes, another one), turf beef, more representation and a fresh set of highs and lows for everyone moving forward.
Riverdale is based on the classic characters from Archie Comics, developed by Robert Aguirre-Sacasa ( Afterlife of Archie, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) in association with Berlanti Productions and Archie Comics. Riverdale is a dark, subversive retelling of the messy, dramatic and bonkers lives of the seemingly normal town that’s anything but. The show’s cast stars KJ Apa (Archie), Cole Sprouse (Jughead), Camila Mendes (Veronica), Lili Reinhart (Betty), Madelaine Petsch (Cheryl Blossom) and Ashleigh Murray (Josie).
Riverdale ‘s third season will be back on CW very soon! The season is set to premiere October 10th.
