A pickup truck was going south in the north lanes when the crash occurred.
KENT COUNTY, MI — A wrong-way driver on U. S. 131 crashed into a police car early Friday, July 27, before his pickup truck eventually stopped.
Police were alerted just before 2 a.m. to a pickup going south on U. S. 131 in the northbound lanes near Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids.
Police soon spotted the truck north of 28 th Street. An officer reported that his patrol car was struck head-on by the pickup, which continued south. It was disabled and came to a stop north of M-6.
Police conducted a high-risk traffic stop. The extent of any injuries was not available.
Police shut down northbound U. S. 131 for some time after the incident.
Police are expected to release additional details today.
