Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii blasted Republicans on Thursday for their compliance in allowing President Donald Trump to believe the creation of a Space Force is possible.
“The [vice president] just announced a new military branch – a “Space Force” because no [Republican] is willing to tell POTUS it’s a dumb idea,” Schatz tweeted. “Although ‘Space Force’ won’t happen, it’s dangerous to have a leader who cannot be talked out of crazy ideas.”
The VP just announced a new military branch – a “Space Force,” because no R is willing to tell POTUS it’s a dumb idea. Although “Space Force” won’t happen, it’s dangerous to have a leader who cannot be talked out of crazy ideas. Elect D’s to check POTUS power.

The Hawaii senator then urged Americans to vote for Democrats in order to keep the president’s power in check. (RELATED: Pence Explains How Trump’s Space Force Will Become Reality)
He began ranting about the Space Force on Twitter immediately following Vice President Mike Pence’s address to the Pentagon, which helped provide clarification on the potential sixth branch of the military.
“As President Trump has said in his own words, it’s not enough to merely have a presence in space. We must have American dominance in space, and so we will,” Pence said Thursday explaining the importance of the new command.
Schatz seemed to take umbrage with the Space Force’s $8 billion price tag, implying that the funds should instead go to providing health care.
“Space Force is a silly but dangerous idea. Medicaid expansion is not silly or dangerous,” he continued. “We should do the second one. Vote!”
“Maybe we should rename Medicaid Expansion ‘Space Force’ and we could save lives,” Schatz tweeted.
