As part of update 5.3, Epic Games adds a number of new things to the Fortnite experience including a Rift-to Go item and Score Royale limited time mode.
Rifts are apparently all the rage in Fortnite at the moment. Not only has season 5 revolved around the opening and closing of rifts in the sky, but Epic recently re-enabled smaller rifts randomly placed around the map to let players warp back up into the sky. Update 5.3 recently arrived in the game this week and in addition to plenty of bug fixes and general game improvements, this latest patch also adds a couple of interesting new things for players to check out.
Within update 5.3, Fortnite Battle Royale players are also getting a brand new limited time mode known as Score Royale. Instead of trying to be the last person standing, players are trying to be the first to cross a points threshold by collecting coins, looting treasure, and eliminating other players. One thing to note about this mode is that early game storm circles are larger and move slower to allow for players to spread out and find the hidden loot. However, once the game nears conclusion, the storm moves much faster adding a bit of tension and drama to the final few players scrambling for the final points.
As previously revealed by Fortnite dataminers and leakers, the latest item to join the Battle Royale scene is known as Rift-To-Go. Designed to be a great escape or flank tool, players use the item to open a small rift that they can enter. From there they appear in the sky and put back into the skydiving animation. The rift is open for 10 seconds once activated which not only allows for teammates to participate but also enemy players who can reach it in time as well. Players can stack a max of two after finding them in treasure chests, vending machines, supply drops, or loot llamas.
While players continue to work on their week 6 challenges for season 5, the Android version continues to be a hot topic of discussion. Outside of the fact that Epic has completely went around the typical Google Play route for its latest mobile version, the Galaxy skin has caught plenty of people’s attention thanks to its appearance of stars, constellations, and galaxies inside a normal customization outfit. Prolific Fortnite streamer Ninja recently got a chance to show off the impressive skin in action while also securing an easy Victory Royale as well.
Fortnite is available now on iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with an Android beta currently taking place.
