A new segment of Resident Evil 2 gameplay surfaces, featuring Claire Redfield as she unsuccessfully attempts to engage and destroy the first form of G.
Recently, Capcom released some new Resident Evil 2 remake screenshots featuring Claire Redfield. Claire has largely been absent from the game’s early marketing, but it looks like it’s finally time for Ms. Redfield to have her time in the spotlight. She hasn’t gotten the full trailer treatment just yet, but some gameplay footage starring Resident Evil 2’s other highly-capable protagonist has made its way online at least.
The scene opens with Claire encountering Sherry Birkin, the daughter of Umbrella Corporation researcher William Birkin. Her conversation with the girl is cut short as the creature known as “G,” the former William Birkin, bursts into the room and attempts to kill Claire. Claire then engages the first of Resident Evil 2‘s two antagonists using a variety of means.
Claire isn’t a former S. T. A. R. S. member like her older brother Chris, but the younger Redfield sibling is still quite able to hold her own against the genetic abominations plaguing Raccoon City. Just like in the original game, Claire is able to carry an entire arsenal around with her. She’s packing an SMG and a grenade launcher in addition to her shotgun/pistol combo. The amount of damage “G” actually takes is unknown, as there’s no health bar and the creature appears wholly unfazed by everything short of the grenade launcher. This, along with the game’s character design adjustments, is a bit of a departure from the original Resident Evil 2. All it took to bring “G” down in that game were a few blasts from the enhanced shotgun.
The final scene is a confrontation between Claire, Sherry, and the corrupt Raccoon City police chief Brian Irons. It’s not entirely clear whether Claire and Chief Irons have already met in this version of the game, but it’s absolutely certain that he’s already gone from partly detached to fully unhinged.
Capcom was worried about the Resident Evil 2 remake, but it looks like its fears were unfounded. The game is looking great, and Resident Evil fans are ready to receive it with open arms. Just like with Resident Evil 7, Capcom will likely find itself with a great windfall on its hands once the game launches next year.
Resident Evil 2 is set to release on January 25,2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
