Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game director Masahiro Sakurai announced a series of new additions to the upcoming title during today’s Nintendo Direct, and one of the standout features is the huge number of stages that will be in the game.
There will be 103 stages in total, arranged in the order in which they were introduced in the series. We were also shown our first glimpse of the New Donk City stage, inspired by Super Mario Odyssey.
Another new feature is something Nintendo calls “stage morph,” which allows battles to span between different stages. You begin on one stage, there is a shifting effect onscreen, and suddenly you’re fighting in a whole new environment. This is a feature you’ll have to enable yourself, however, since it sounds like the default will be to have it disabled.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a Nintendo Switch exclusive that will be released on Dec. 7,2018. You can read our comprehensive look at everything you should know about the game if you need to catch up; this is going to be a big release.
